The Burton Family 1955-1993
|

The original Burton Family Quartet was made up of Claude Burton, his
wife Lorene, his uncle Charles Burton, and Charles' wife Gerrie.
Claude's youngest son Troy played the lead guitar for the group until he
started his own gospel singing group (The Sounds of Praise) in 1974.
The Burton Family began singing as a group in the mid to late 1950's
and continued active in Gospel music until the death of Claude Burton in
1994. Charles passed away in 1999, and his wife Gerrie passed away in
2001. Lorene, at the age of 87, is still active in Clay Hill Baptist Church
where she plays the piano when called upon and is a valued member of
our church choir. Lorene continues to be a great blessing to her family,
to her friends, to her neighbors, and to all those people with whom she
comes into contact on a daily basis. As the only living member of the
Burton Family Quartet, Lorene states, "I'm so glad our memories still live
on. One of our greatest blessings was singing the Gospel in songs. It
was Because of Him we had this great privilege."

The Burton Family 2nd Generation gospel singing group is made up of
Troy Burton, his wife Kaye, and their youngest daughter Kelly Reed.
Also travelling with the group on a regular basis is Kelly's husband
Joseph Reed, a young minister of the gospel, and her two sons Jaxon
(age 10) and Eli (age 7). Occasionally, Troy and Kaye's oldest daughter
Angie and her husband Jason Burke and children, Hailey (age 16),
Hunter (age 12), and Mikala (age 11) travel and sing with the group. The
Burton Family 2nd Generation has been singing as a group since the mid
1990s. The inclusion of the grandchildren makes up four generations of
the singing Burton Family and includes more than fifty years of gospel
music. They travel extensively in the East Tennessee region and in
some parts of Georgia. Troy and Kaye and family members are active
members of the Clay Hill Baptist Church in Riceville, Tennessee, where
Kaye continues to serve as church pianist since early in the mid 1970s,
and Troy has served as choir director and deacon for over thirty years.
The Lord has richly blessed the group with multiple recordings over the
years and the Lord has made it possible to offer these recordings to the
public at no charge. The recordings include numerous songs written by
Troy Burton. "The Burton Family would like to take this opportunity to
thank those churches which have opened their doors to our testimonies
and songs. We ask that you pray for us as we carry the ministry of the
Lord Jesus Christ in song. It is truly "Because Of Him" that we, like the
original Burton Family Quartet, sing our songs"

Our oldest granddaughter Hailey Burke, who was about 12
at the time of the recording below, has been singing since
she was a small child. We have recordings of her from the
time she was 2 years old. Click below to hear one of her
recordings. Hailey is now 16 and continues to sing in her
home church, Clay Hill Baptist Church.
SECOND & THIRD GENERATIONS
|
UPDATE: The Burton Family 2nd Generation has not travelled and sung since 2010. There have been a
lot of happenings that the Lord has brought this group through. Our family group continues to sing at
our home church (Clay Hill). In December 29, 2010, Kelly gave birth to her third son Wesley William
Reed. In May 2011, Troy had a heart attack and had three stints to correct a 100% blockage in his heart.
Six weeks later, Kaye fell down the basement stairs and broke her ankle. Eight weeks in a chair at home
and limited walking ability for about 3 months. BUT the good thing about it, the Lord was good and
merciful to each of us. Kelly's little son is now 16 months old and is doing well except for some
allergies, but the Lord will see us through -- we have no doubt! Troy is doing well and after 10 months,
Kaye is walking almost normally again. We appreciate the prayers that have been prayed on our behalf.
